MLB Playoffs - Championship Series Predictions

Ringer's Record
Division Series: 4-0
Playoffs: 4-2

I hope you took my advice in the Division Series matchups. I got all 4 series right and correctly predicted the number of games in 3 of the 4 series. In unprecedented fashion, every series went to a deciding 5th game. The Yankees and Tigers will get the ALCS started tonight. The Cardinals kept their dream of a repeat alive with yet another rally when they were down to their final strike. They will head to San Francisco for the start of the NLCS tomorrow. Here is how I expect this round of the 2012 MLB Playoffs to play out.

ALCS
Detroit Tigers       N.Y. Yankees
Detroit (88-74) vs. NY Yankees (95-67)

Yankees won season series 6-4

Detroit Season Stats
BA - .268
RPG - 4.48
ERA - 3.75

NY Yankees Stats
BA - .265
RPG - 4.96
ERA - 3.85

This is the matchup many expected to see when the season began. The Yankees have a permanent spot reserved in October. The Tigers went out and got one of the most prized free agents in Prince Fielder to add more power to a lineup that already had Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera. The Yankees struggled to hit against Baltimore. Detroit has a much more difficult pitching rotation than the Orioles. I liked the Tigers to come out of the AL when the playoffs began, and there's nothing I see that would cause me to change that.

Prediction - Detroit over NY Yankees 4-2

NLCS

St. Louis Cardinals       San Francisco Giants
St. Louis (88-74) vs. San Francisco (94-68)

Season Series tied 3-3

St. Louis Season Stats
BA - .271
RPG - 4.72
ERA - 3.71

San Francisco Season Stats
BA - .269
RPG - 4.43
ERA - 3.68

Both of these teams took survive and advance to the extreme levels in the NLDS. The Cardinals were down to their final strike, trailing by 2 runs in Washington. The Cardiac Cards did it again though, coming up with 4 runs with 2 outs to close out the Nats and advance to another NLCS. The Giants lost the 2 games at home to go down 0-2 to the Reds, before rallying for 3 wins in Cincinnati to advance. Now the last 2 NL champs square off for a chance to go back to the World Series. I have liked the Giants all year. When the playoffs began, they were my pick to win it all. I'm sticking with that.

Prediction - San Francisco over St. Louis 4-1
